Here is some good news for the owners of HTC Incredible S, Desire, Wildfire and Aria. AlphaRevX team has released a public beta version of the one-click S-OFF tool. Let us remind you that the tool was earlier released to a limited number of beta testers and according to their reports, the tool was successfully able to change S-OFF to S-ON condition.

IMPORTANT: We remind you once again that this tool is still in beta and hence needs to be used with caution. Proceed only if you are aware of the implications. You have been warned.

The AplharevX tool is compatible only with the following devices:

  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Desire CDMA
  • HTC Wildfire
  • HTC Aria
  • HTC Incredible S

REQUIREMENTS

Download AlpharevX S-OFF tool to computer. Currently, the tool works on Windows and Linux platform only.

You need to note down your phone’s HBOOT version. For doing that, boot into the Hboot mode and take a look at the top section.

INSTRUCTIONS

Unzip the downloaded tool and run the ‘alpharevx.exe’ file. Enable USB Debugging mode in the phone and connect the phone to computer via USB cable.  Select ‘Charge’ mode. You should now see the connection status and your phone model identified in the AlphaRevX utility. If your device is not identified, it means either your device is not compatible with the tool, or you don’t have HBoot drivers installed on your computer.

Now go to this page: http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/ and fill in the details for Operating system, Device, HBOOT version, and Serial number. Then click on ‘Generate’ button. You can obtain the Serial number from the AlphaRevX interface.

You will get a ‘beta’ key. Key-in that number in the AlphaRevX and wait for the magic to happen. If everything goes well, you should see the ‘SUCCESS’ message after some time.

S_OFF_SUCESS

That’s it. You have now successfully achieved the S-OFF on your device. Check it by going to HBoot mode.

The utility didn’t work on our test device HTC Incredible S running on Android 2.3.3 (Asia version). It got stuck at the ‘Acquiring root…’ message. We have reported this problem to the developer, and hopefully it may get fixed in the final release version.

However, as per user reports, the success rates are higher for many other devices and the tool does the great job in a zippy.

Did it work for your device? Do let us know with the details of your phone, region and HBoot version.
