Google has rolled out the Android 3.1 update to the Motorola Xoom 3G version today. The OTA U will take week or two to propagate through the network and reach your Xoom. For the impatient, there is a workaround and as usual, a manual way!

The update was rolled out ONLY to the Xoom 3G and not for the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi version. So make sure you have the 3G variant!

1. Rooted Motorola Xoom 3G.

2. ADB setup on computer.

3. Download the official Android 3.1 update for Motorola Xoom 3G to computer and rename it to ‘’

1. Connect the Motorola Xoom to computer.

2. Copy or move the ‘’ file to the ‘tools’ directory in the Android SDK.

3. Open Command Prompt and run the following commands one-at-a-time:

adb push /sdcard/
adb shell
cd /cache
mkdir recovery
cd recovery
echo ‘–update_package=CACHE:/recovery/’ > command
cat /sdcard/ >
reboot recovery

Your Xoom should now reboot into ‘Recovery mode’ in which the Android 3.1 update will be installed.
